Residential Tour of Fes
Dar and Riyad – By far the largest and most extensive space reserved in the medieval city is domestic space. The courtyard construction, open to the inside, but invisible to the outside is a unique construction of the medieval Islamic city. In this lecture we will explore the culture of domestic life through the Dar and Riyad of Fes.
We begin the introduction to Islamic Architecture at Dar Seffarine then after walking out to look at different size residential houses.
The tour is led by Alaa Said, Iraqi born, with an MA in Architecture from the Architecture School of Oslo (AHO). He has over 20 years of experience working on and restoring traditional Islamic houses in the medina.
The tour takes four hours and is conducted in English. Please note that the tour could include uneven streets and steep stairs.
